E-CONNECT - The newsletter of George Brown Alumni and Friends

March 2005
  Dear Alumnus,
The college system has been in existence in Ontario
for 38 years. This year, for the first time in our history,
the Rae Advisory Panel undertook a review of the system recommending an increase in funding to colleges of $400 million by 2007-08. The Rae Report, released in January, presents a unique opportunity to influence the provincial government at a critical time in the history and future of
the Ontario college system.

We are asking you to support an e-petition that respectfully asks the government to increase funding to the colleges now. At the date of publication, over 800 Alumni from colleges across Ontario have signed the petition. We have more than one million alumni like you who generate an 11 million positive impact
on Ontario's economy. George Brown alumni make a significant contribution to
this province and you can affirm this by taking 5 minutes to go to www.fundcollegesnow.ca. Please sign the e-petition and tell the government that the college education you received is worth more. We encourage you to pass this on to friends and alumni and contact us if you would like to get more involved. Thank you.

George Brown College's response to the South Asia and Africa Tsunami Crisis
The December 26, 2004 tsunami was a tragedy beyond our belief. Before the
emergency phase of this disaster is complete, Canadians will have supported
millions of dollars of assistance to those affected by the tsunami. Our international    students, many of whom are from the affected region, also want to contribute
and decided that their annual orientation party would also include fundraising.
Come and join us for dinner, dancing, and some fundraising including a silent
   auction. Read more http://www.georgebrown.ca/interntl/poster_March05.pdf.

We are all still trying to comprehend the enormity of the disaster that has affected
millions of people in the South Asia region, Somalia and in many other parts of the
globe. Given the background of our students and staff, it is likely members of our
community have been directly affected. Many more are asking how we can respond to this catastrophe. Read more http://www.gbrownc.on.ca/News/tsunami_crisis.html.

MARRIAGE A LA MODE at George Brown Theatre

   By John Dryden
   Directed by Paul Lampert
   April 12, 14, 16, 20, 22 - 8:00 pm
   Sat., April 23 - 2:00 pm

"He's in love with her, but she's in love with him, who in turn is in love with..." In this wild and witty comedy, the great Restoration playwright John Dryden unleashes a hilarious attack on marital convention, while examining the true (yet murky) nature of desire. Lusty and literate, Marriage A La Mode is a rarely seen masterwork from one of the era's great writers. Go to http://www.gbrownc.on.ca/theatre/Spring-Theatre-05.pdf.
